Browser or web browser
 A software program that allows users to view content on the Internet and World Wide Web (eg. Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer).
Search Engine  Computer program used to search and catalogue the billions of pages of information available on the web. Common search engines are Google and AltaVista.
HTTP The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the set of rules for exchanging files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the World Wide Web.
URL A Uniform Resource Locator describes the "address" for a document on the internet, eg. www.tacticaltech.org
Bookmarks
A list of saved URL addresses of websites within a browser, also referred to as Favourites.
Domain
 A domain is the main subdivision of Internet addresses, the last three letters after the final dot, and it tells you what kind of organization you are dealing with. There are six top-level domains widely used: .com (commercial) .edu (educational),.net (network operations), .gov (US government), .mil (US military) and .org (organization). Other, two letter domains represent countries; so .uk for the United Kingdom, .in for India, .ug for Uganda and so on.
Server A computer that handles requests for data, e-mail, file transfers and other network services from other computers.
Web host A company that uses a web server to provide storage space for many web sites.
E-mail Literally, electronic mail. Messages sent via the internet under the something@domain.com protocol.
Online Connected to the Internet.
Offline Not connected to the Internet.
Hybrid distribution Using both online and offline methods to share information.
Blog A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse time order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject; some function as more personal online diaries. Blog software (eg. Wordpress) is often used to build websites for organizations now, as it is easy and free to use.
Website A website is a related collection of web files that includes an initial file called a home page. You can get to a website by typing in the home page address, or URL (also known as Domain), in your browser. From this home page, you can get to all the other pages on a website.
Content The 'stuff' that makes up a web site. This could be words, pictures, images or sounds.
Spam  Unsolicited e-mail; spam is also referred to as junk mail. Spam is usually sent to hundreds or even hundreds of thousands of inbox's at the same time.
Syndication  Syndication means that anyone can subscribe to your blog and receive automatic notification that it has been updated. It uses RSS feeds.
 RSS Really Simple Syndication is a technology that allows Internet users to receive ongoing, constantly updated information from many sources through a simple reader or aggregator (eg. Google Reader). This is supplied through an “RSS feed” that users can subscribe to.
Aggregator  A feed aggregator, also known as a feed reader, news reader or simply as an aggregator, is client software or a Web application which aggregates syndicated web content such as news headlines, blogs, podcasts, and vlogs in a single location for easy viewing.
Social bookmarking
 The ability to save and categorize a personal collection of bookmarks through services such as Delicious and share them with others. Users may also take bookmarks saved by others and add them to their own collection, as well as to subscribe to the lists of others.
Social networking  A broad class of web sites and services that allow you to connect with friends, family, and colleagues online, as well as meet people with similar interests or hobbies. Popular examples include MySpace, Facebook, Linked In. Even photo sharing websites like Flickr have become places for social networking through shared interests.
Web rings A group of websites with a common theme, built in a loop, allowing a surfer easy access to subsequent sites in the ring by clicking on links.  There are thousands of web-rings around in all sorts of categories and issues.
Online Media Storage
Websites that allow you to store, share and view a range of media such as digital photographs (see Flickr), audio files like podcasts, video (see YouTube).
Carnivals
Weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly roundups of blogs on a particular issue or topic.
